Patti, PI, is a nod to the show Magnum, PI. I grew up in the 1980s and loved watching Magnum, PI. To be honest, I still watch the reruns when they are on TV. I am also a Penn State alumni, just like the creator of the show, Donald P. Bellisario, so that show will always hold a special place in my heart. We are…
This blog is about the ancestors that I am meeting in my genealogy journey. While I am not meeting them in an official capacity, I feel like I am getting an opportunity to get to know them as individuals as I research and dig into their lives. This is what makes me like a private investigator (PI). Unlike Magnum, I won’t be driving around Hawaii in a red Ferrari (although I do hope to move to the beach someday soon) and I won’t be saving someone from an abandoned warehouse seconds before a bomb explodes with the help of my friends. I’ll just be quietly putting together the puzzle pieces that will help me to learn about my ancestors and my family. Also, unlike Magnum, I won’t be SOLVING any mysteries. I’ll be EXPLORING mysteries. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that in genealogy one question answered usually brings about ten more waiting to be answered.
I’ll be taking individuals with an interesting story to tell and trying to tell their story as factually as I can based on the information that I have at my disposal. I will update each post as I learn more information. In this way I can honor them. There is a holiday in the Mexican tradition called Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It is a celebration held every year to honor and remember friends and family members who have died. Although I have no Mexican heritage (at least none that I have found to date), I appreciate and respect this tradition. Admittedly, the bulk of my information about this holiday comes from the Disney movie, Coco, but the idea of honoring and remembering those who have come before us is an important one to me. Those people have made us what and who we are. So, in tribute to them, as the song, “Remember Me”, from the movie Coco implies, this is how I will make sure that they are remembered for years to come. After all, at the end of the day, I think we all want to be remembered.
